Stylish women over 40 Share the patterns of Jean

We are constantly turning to certain style-setters for timeless yet directional inspiration in fashion. Females over 40 are, of course, at the top of the list. Because those in this particular group just seem to get it when you think about it, given their experience of curating a well-balanced wardrobe. To that, cool jeans came up as an absolute must when we recently tapped stylish ladies over 40 to fill us in on the go-out basics they wear on repeat. So we thought we’d dive a little bit more into this topic.

We chatted with a range of fashionable and inspiring women in the age bracket for their expert opinions to uncover that further intel on the general denim trends women over 40 swear by. With that in mind, keep scrolling to find out the different jean cuts that the women concerned are never going to stop wearing for nights out, the workplace, and anywhere else. But note, age is literally just a number (and you’re supposed to wear whatever you want, no matter when your birthday falls), so all the denim trends below could work for anyone.

“As a denim lover, high-rise, straight denim is a style I’m going to wear every season. For instance, 501s of the iconic Levi. On every silhouette, this vintage-inspired fit flatters. Since I love mixing feminine and male inspiration in the same look, straight-cut denim marries well with a blouse of silk and can be worn day and night.

“I love a full-length jean with a slightly wider leg and little to no distressing — still with a high elevation and certainly a heel. It doesn’t matter what I pair up, it has some shine that I love.”

“This season and next, I know that for a fashion-forward look I will continue to wear mom jeans with a high-rise in pale blue, white, or gray tones.

“At the moment, I love a few denim styles. I love skinny jeans tucked in high-knee boots. I’m in a straight leg high-rise as well. I like them because they look super cool and fresh. I wear them with jeans, but with some kind of pumps, sneakers, or slides they always look great.

Denim styles Which are On-Trend

I’m always on the hunt for new designs to add to my wardrobe as someone who wears denim as often as possible. What are the qualifications? Stylish, well-fitting, and affordable, as of late. Consumers (including myself) have asked for a more environmentally friendly denim industry, and one of my favorite French brands, Maje, is committed to the cause to my delight. I was originally drawn to Maje’s First Stone Denim collection because of the unique pieces that feature fun details such as fringe and two-tone washes, but I was thrilled when I found out that it was also produced using a new stone-wash technique that reduces the water, chemical, and energy resources required for manufacturing.

For many reasons, a denim jacket is a wardrobe staple, my favorite being that it can make a polished appearance feel a little cooler. Take this office-friendly printed dress and heeled knee-high boots outfit: the look immediately feels more stylish when I add the four-pocket, fringe-sleeved topper. Adding trendy accessories such as a croc-effect bag, a wide headband, and gold jewelry raises the look, making it remarkable.

A denim dress is perfect on its own, but it’s an ensemble immediately when you lay it over a turtleneck and below a plaid blazer. I opt for my go-to black combat boots and a daily leather crossbody bag to balance the sophisticated top half of the look.

With so many types of jeans that look the same, finding a pair that looks very different is refreshing. This straight-leg pair instantly caught my attention with the surprising detail of the bandana. Denim worn with sneakers and a white tee is my go-to weekend uniform, but adding an oversized check coat, a bold handbag, and chunky sneakers make this outfit worthy of a double-take.

I usually book my denim shorts for summer months and hot weather holidays, but there’s something daring to style them for fall. Alternatively, I’m matching them with a comfortable turtleneck, an oversized cardigan, and a chic black bag with Western-inspired fringe info. For that subtle touch of schoolgirl, I picked loafers and big socks.

Jeans Types Everybody should Know

We have recently shared the skinny jeans that our editors swear by, and while the style is a classic wardrobe and a timeless denim silhouette, we are shifting gears today and focusing on the year’s denim trends. For what’s common in the denim world this season and beyond, we’re setting out to pay attention to the top three trends. We recommend denim-loving readers stock up on the three main styles of jeans to ensure that we are ahead of the trends for the coming months. Including extremely relaxed choices to classic silhouettes that make a fresh return, keep reading to see everybody’s wearing denim trends right now and how celebrities wear on-trend jeans.

Anti–Skinny Jeans

Loose jeans (aka anti-skinny jeans) offer an incredibly laid-back look, as Kendall Jenner points out here. We’ve talked a bit about this year’s baggy denim trend and found that the fashion among our readers is quite polarizing. This Agolde pair received the most praise from this year’s entire denim range and also makes the most comfortable pair. Browse below our top picks of loose jeans.

Skinny Jeans 2.0

If you haven’t learned about skinny jeans ‘ new wave, let’s get you quick. My colleague Allyson Payer was the first to see Victoria Beckham wearing the skinny jeans below, and AP pointed out how the model is a new type of skinny jeans: essentially a combination of slim and straight jeans but lower than conventional straight cuts through the calf and ankle. Beckham has even shown that with any form of heels you can wear the new style. Browse below our favorite 2.0 skinny jeans.

High(er)-Rise Heights

High-rise jeans will reign as a classic denim style forever, and this year we see brands taking it to the next level, increasing inseam measurements and debuting silhouettes with names such as “pinch waist” and “ribcage” jeans. Both styles are examples of designs that are designed to hit your frame as high as possible to concentrate on your waist. Store underneath the right high(er)-rise jeans.

Ways to Get Skinnier Look in Jeans

You can’t always achieve your goal weight— but you can look skinner in jeans right now. Most women rely on jeans as a wardrobe staple, often reaching out to them when we don’t feel comfortable squeezing into other wardrobe options. Yet looking slimmer in jeans can be a bit of an art— it’s not as easy as just buying a pair of thin jeans. We’ve gathered the best fashion tips on what to look for when you go shopping for jeans, to help you find the perfect pair of jeans that make you look like you’ve lost weight every time you put them on. Check out our time-saving, figure-enhancing guide on how to look skinner in jeans.

Choose a Dark Wash Jeans

If your goal is to look slimmer in jeans, in the darkest end of the color range, you’ll want to select a denim shade. In deep indigo or black denim wash, slim, well-fitting dark wash jeans are not only slender but also super versatile to wear with both casual and dressy tops. Keep in mind that most dark denim jeans require some extra care to wash, especially when you bring them home for the first time, as they are typically made with heavy dyes that can bleed into other clothing when washing. We’re telling you how to wash dark wash jeans to avoid bleeding from the fabric dye.

Say yes to High-Rise

High-waist pants, thanks to old-school models, have gotten a bit of a bad reputation. High-rise jeans are nothing to fear if worn correctly, though, and can literally do wonders to make you look instantly thinner. This works because the lower body is elongated by a well-fitting, higher-rise jean, tricking the eye to see a leaner you. This style also helps keep your tummy in place, smooth your shape along the hip line, and eliminates the risk of top muffin.

Pay attention to Length

Pay special attention to length when you’re dressed to look skinnier in jeans. Dark wash jeans that end one or two inches below the ankle, especially when paired with the right shoes, can elongate your body. (Pointy toed shoes can stretch your legs, while round or square-toed shoes can make your legs look stumpier). When shopping for jeans, it’s always a good idea to bring along the shoes you’re most likely to wear with the jeans to get an accurate picture of the size. If you want to use your jeans to change between flats and heels, buy a (longer) jean that will match your favorite high heels while still reaching your knee under the ankle.

Always check the Rear View

If the way your ass looks in jeans is a concern for you, when shopping for a new pair of denim, you will want to pay careful attention to the back pocket construction. For a skinnier look, the right pocket model will reduce your edge, while the wrong back pockets will make your back end look awful. Such back pockets of jeans will make your back look great.

Pleated Jeans A ‘ 80s Denim Trend You’re Seeing About

I see it as my duty to report on what Jean patterns are in and out before fall Start, and there’s one denim style I know for sure is past its prime: mom jeans. I hate breaking it because I know the fit was a favorite fan, but regular mom jeans aren’t the freshest choice anymore. With all things bubbling up in the style of the 80s right now, it’s only natural that plated jeans will eventually make a comeback, and that day finally came. From the celebrity street style looks to our go-to denim brands like Levi’s and Agolde, we’ve been plated jeans everywhere we look lately. So the fact that they read close to mom jeans — although with a more stylish, trouser-like fit — makes us think they’re about to become as famous as once were the beloved mom jeans. Ready to see how chic the trend of pleated jeans can be?

Whether or not you’re a decade-long follower of fashion, the polarizing trends of the’ 80s have made their way back into the 2018 trends process. Trends like color-block sweaters, neon and shoulder pads prove to be officially trendy again, but there’s a particular trend that we’re really surprised to see a comeback: plated denim.

On the Street

One of the first celebrities we encountered was Chrissy Teigen who put her approval stamp on the controversial jeans. You have to admit that her stylish approach to styling them with a bodysuit, strappy sandals, and a black top is pretty good, no matter where you stand on them.

Hailey Bieber stepped out of the buzzy Re / Done x Attico partnership in a pair of plated jeans, and her look shows that elegance is the perfect way to test the denim trend.

Take a cue from Chriselle Lim, a street-style queen, and slip a thin knit top into a pair of pleated jeans.

Erika Boldrin tells us why the perfect match for the panty-like jeans is elegant silhouettes like a tailored blazer.
